The records of the Greater Poland Province dating from the 18th and 19th centuries, preserved in the manuscript Decretale provinciae strictioris observantiae (file no. AKKr 168/397) kept by the Archives of the Carmelite Friars in Cracow, coming from the Warsaw Carmelite Convent, feature lists of friars in individual monasteries, including Bydgoszcz. Thanks to these records we can learn about the makeup of the Carmelite Monastery in Bydgoszcz, starting from the early 18th century until its disbanding in 1816. An analysis of reports from the chapter elections and compiled lists (so-called familia conventui), allows also to restore lists of priors and sub-priors, as well as other friars playing important functions, including the socii of the chapter, lectors (lecturers), preachers, questors and prosecutors, sacristans and organists, as well as other Carmelites helping in pastoral ministry in the area. Preserved records include complete lists of seminarians, friars, religious fathers and brothers making up the convent during individual terms between chapters. Based on them, we can restore the convent community dynamics, which also reflects the difficult history of the Bydgoszcz Carmelites.
