Michał Łempicki (1856-1930), of the coat of arms of Junosza, was the son of Michał and Marianna nee Łempicki. He was a mining engineer, entrepreneur, politician, publicist, sports activist, and generous benefactor. For him, Bydgoszcz was supposed to be a quiet oasis after years of hard work, becoming another place, in which he generously shared his experience and great heart. He graduated from the Mining Academy of Petersburg. He made the natural resources and geological maps of the Dąbrowa Basin. Director of the “Hrabia Renard” Coalmine, Starachowice Works, owner of the “M. Łempicki and Company Drilling Office and Mining Works” in Sosnowiec, a member of the Russian State Duma from Piotrków Governorate in 1912-1915, and a member of the Provisional Council of State established in 1916. In the beginning of the 1920s he purchased a villa in Bydgoszcz on 2 Chopina Street (since 1931, no. 6), where he moved in after his retirement with his wife Józefa nee Bierzyński. He cooperated with the daily “Dziennik Bydgoski,” writing about political, economic and social affairs. His house on Chopina Street was filled with paintings, made by his sister Leokadia Łempicka. According to the last will of Łempicki and his wife, these artworks after their death were moved to the Municipal Museum of Bydgoszcz. Michał Łempicki died on December 29, 1930. He was buried in the Nowofarny Cemetery of Bydgoszcz. Three months later he was joined in his final resting place by his wife. The Łempicki tombstone was disposed of in the 1980s.
