Abstrakt

Books with residence registration records in the city of Bydgoszcz encompass the period from the beginning of the 19th century until the early 20th century, serving as a valuable source of information regarding population. Therefore, it is important to protect these records and prepare them for digitalization. The first stage of activities involved assessment of the current state of the collection and selection of individual items for preservation. Preservation works on two books with records included disassembly of the damaged block, cleaning of pages and reinforcement of edges and tears. The preserved blocks of books were bound in new cardboard, preserving the original marbling. Special protective boxes were made as well. Preservation of books with records was used as a basis for preparation of preservation methods, which will be used for preservation of the remaining books with residence registration records in the future.
