Nekrolog - ogłoszenie o śmierci

Abstrakt

This article concerns obituaries in Polish newspapers. It contains a brief history of this unique press report and describes its social role. An analysis of obituary content allowed to separate its constant elements. Based on it, obituaries were divided into various types. Each of the mentioned types of obituaries, through their content, is also a carrier of emotional state of its author or a group of authors, facing a traumatic experience which is death of a very close person. Authors want to publically manifest their feelings by publishing obituaries. Deliberations on obituaries and their content were illustrated with examples from the daily “Express Bydgoski” published in the first quarter of 2015. The description also shows evolution of another type of death announcement which is death notice. It is usually mounted at the entrance to the church, cemetery gate and local announcement boards.
