Two books from the State Archive collection in Bydgoszcz underwent conservation. These were: a copy book from the records group Cistercian Monastery in Koronowo and a book from the group Carmelite Monastery in Bydgoszcz. The objective of the conservation and restoration works was to stop the destruction process of materials and to safeguard them against further destruction. Due to the value of these historical books, the procedures aimed at keeping their integrity and as much authentic substance as possible. The essence of the conducted conservation and restoration works was to strengthen the leather cover of the books through doubling the cover with grain leather. It was necessary to strengthen the block suspension to lighten the original binders and to prevent their splitting. Metal fasteners were also restored. All conservation and restoration procedures were aimed at preserving in the best possible way the features determining the value of the historical books. The specific procedures were selected to interfere in the material of the historical books to the least possible extent, to improve the state of their preservation and aesthetics, and at the same time to safeguard them against further destruction.
