Abstract

The paper presents the stages of inland waterway development in Russia with particular emphasis on the Volga river, which connects the Baltic with the Black Sea. It offers insights on the current condition of waterways in Russia and their relationship with maritime transport in Europe through the Deep Water System. Attention is drawn to obstacles in planning water transport that arise from the transformation of hydrological conditions.
