Kazimierz Michał Styp-Rekowski, MD (1898-1983) was a well-known internist and cardiologist of Bydgoszcz. In 1924-1931, he studied at the Faculty of Medicine of the Poznań University. He settled down in Bydgoszcz in 1932. Between December 1 of that year and the end of 1935 he worked as assistant at the Department of Internal Medicine of Giese-Rafalska Hospital. On January 1, 1936, Kazimierz Styp-Rekowski became head o f the Department o f Internal Medicine of the County Hospital in Bydgoszcz. Since April 5, 1938 until November 2, 1939, Dr. K. Styp-Rekowski was employed as head of the Department of Internal Medicine in the new Municipal Hospital of Bydgoszcz in Bielawy. On November 2, 1939, he was displaced from Bydgoszcz and settled down in Radom, where he worked in the local Social Insurance Company. On March 15, 1945, after the end of German Occupation, he returned to Bydgoszcz, where he took up the position as head of the Department of Internal Medicine in the Municipal Hospital. He also worked as teacher in the Regional Nursing School, and since January 1, 1953 until January 31, 1967 he worked as manager of the Department of Internal Diseases of the Bydgoszcz Branch of the Medical Staff Development and Specialization Institute. Dr. K. Styp-Rekowski is called the father of internal medicine in the Region of Kuyavia and Pomerania. He educated a large group of Bydgoszcz physicians. He was highly valued for his professional skills, particularly in the field of internal medicine, as well as organizational and administrative skills.
