Abstrakt

Housing poverty, a concept nowadays under scientific and research consid- eration, occurred also in Poland in the inter-war years. On the example of Bydgoszcz, the features of this social problem specific to the examined period were presented: overpopulation of flats, putting up at somebody’s place and subtenancy, staying in non-residential rooms, development of the housing poverty phenomenon, lack of access to sanitary fixtures. In the face of social and economic problems, caused to a significant extent by geopo- litical changes as a result of World War One, the housing poverty problem remained unsolved in the entire examined period. The lack of precise source information makes it impossible to specify the issue with concrete numbers, however, it seems that it cannot be perceived in marginal phenomenon categories.
