Population changes in Szwederowo in 1874-1914 Demographic analysis based on birth records

Abstract

The article is dedicated to births in Szwederowo - a rural township outside Bydgoszcz - in 1874-1914. Its purpose is to show the number of births, taking into consideration gender, children born out of wedlock and multiple births, monthly seasonality and fetal deaths. Demographic analysis, which reported populations of this township, showed changes that took place in the period between the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century. They were related to the origins of industrialization in the neighboring city of Bydgoszcz, influx of people and incorporation of the nearby district of Górzyskowo. They led to changes in denominational profile and an increase of children born out of wedlock. The article can be an introduction to further studies on this population, e.g. its occupational structure and descent of inhabitants.
