From the history of Bydgoszcz audiovisual culture. The origins of the official video distribution

The 1980s marked the appearance of videotape recorders in private households. After several years of uncontrolled development of the video market, official, legal institutions started to operate. They were involved in distribution of videotapes with films recorded on this carrier. The beginning of this stage of local audiovisual culture took place in 1988, along with the opening of the first video rentals, with separate regulations, principles of use, and above all respect for the copyrights of filmmakers. The article incorporates these events in the context of the broad participation, creating a map of places and restoring a catalog of rituals proper for the forming community of video-fans.
