Tattoos and piereing - fashion or a form of self-expression

Abstract

Tattoo and piercing have accompanied people for some 40,000 years. In the early years, drawings on the skin had a magical power or marked a social status. It had been for centuries. Later, they served as mark- ers of belonging to specific groups, including criminals. Their high costs meant that this ornamentation of the body was available only to the elites. However, changes in technology and rising prosperity led to popularization of tattoo. In the 21st century, tattoos express primarily esthetic views of their owners or describe their life experiences.
