Demythologization of the Second Polish Republic in the memories of Edward Woyniłłowicz (1847-1928)

The "Memories" written in Bydgoszcz by Edward Woyniłłowicz (1847-1928), a landowner from Eastem Borderlands, is a valuable source of historical Information, deconstructing many myths and stereotypes. The author, although he represented interests of his class, closed in traditional Catholic and national beliefs, madę a sober assessment of the policy of the Second Polish Republic. An important strength of this assessment is focus on the rarely analyzed, difficult economic problems. The author, as a longtime chairman of the Mińsk Agricultural Society and administrator of large estates, was a practitioner experiencing transitions to capitalism in the first three decades of the 20th century. His memories are characterized by a true concem for the country and criticism of Poland’s national flaw.
