The report contains the original article (and its translation to Polish), which was featured in the French medical publication “Journal General de Medicine, de Chirurgie et de Pharmacie” in 1809. It was written by the Napoleonie Army doctor Joseph Bourges (bomin 1776 or 1777-diedin 1851), who in 1806-1808 was responsible for organization of medical service in Bydgoszcz. His interests were going beyond the problems related to military hospitals. He leamed about the history of the city and preferences of its residents. He left descriptions of daily life in the wartime city, described diseases affecting not only soldiers, but also local residents. An interesting article written by this French physician describes the history of Bydgoszcz during the times of the Duchy of Warsaw.
