Abstract

Visitors coming from Germany have been the biggest group of foreign tourists in our country for nearly a ąuarter century. The relations with our neighbor from the west have not always been friendly, which was influenced by both wars and political realities. The presented social and cultural analysis shows the changing image of Bydgoszcz in tourist guides available on the German publishing market, giving an answer to the reasons of evolutions of perception of the city on the Brda River on the western side of the border.
