Abstract

The Museum of Diplomacy and Polish Exile at the Kazimierz Wielki University in Bydgoszcz can be proud of the exceptional collection of the archive records associated with the life and work of Consul General of the II Republic of Poland in Paris and London – Dr Karol Poznański (1893‒1971) and his wife – Wanda (1898‒2003). A large part of the archives concerning the Poznański Family are documents pertaining to the life and work of Karol Poznański: visas and diplomatic passports, travel documents, certificates, official cards, and private correspondence. The materials connected with international peace conferences, for example, the conference in Riga, have an incredibly special historical value. The collection of photographs from the years 1919‒1970 is particularly valuable. The photographs show consulate employees, diplomatic meetings, launching ceremonies of Polish ships, gala balls, banquets and Polish cultural events. The collection also includes invitations, folders, concert and meeting programs, gala dinner menus, as well as greeting cards. The archives are a great testimony to the work of the Poznański Family and their contribution to the homeland, compatriots and the Polish cause. The legacy still hides more than one secret. The collection requires further research and professional scrutiny. Only then it will be possible to discover the full value of the collection.
