A Glance at Polish Sermons Printed from the Reign of Stanisław August Poniatowski (1764-1795). A Review of More Recent Studies

Abstract

Sermons were an important element of communication in the Old Polish society. They were not only part of the holy mass and other church rituals, but were also delivered during political events. The article aims to present the characteristics of the sermons from the second half of the 18th century as a historical source and to present the topics discussed in the sermons by the clergy. The author attempts to divide the homiletic literature into groups compared to other scholars and tries to answer the question, what was the role of the printed sermons?
