Relations of the Population of the Zaporozhian Liberty with the Russian Garrison of the Starosamar Retrenchment in the Archive of the Kish Nova Zaporozhian Sich

Abstract

This research is devoted to sources regarding the relationship between the Russian garrison of the Starosamar retrenchment and the Ukrainian population of territories controlled by the Zaporozhian Cossacks in the archive of the Kish Nova Zaporozhian Sich. These sources contain information about different levels of interaction – both at the institutional and personal levels. At the institutional level, we see, above all, the interaction associated with the provision of resources of Russian soldiers, and conflicts arise mainly in those cases where Russian officers are trying to go beyond the limits of their perjury. By the way, the question of understanding these borders between the two sides is interesting. At the individual level, we see both non conflictual and conflict-related relationships. Despite the fixation of sources in conflicts, they find out daily interaction at the level of commerce, the joint drinking of vodka in the ham, information exchange, and joint criminal cases. At the same time, we should not diminish the conflict, which, in my opinion, is largely due to the extraterritoriality of Russian soldiers, their incompatibility with the Zaporozhian authorities.
