The journal focuses on issues related to literary and linguistic studies, as well as on questions of multiculturalism and multilingualism approached from communicative and identity-oriented perspectives. Its thematic scope includes, among other areas, research on cultural and intercultural communication, language contact (with particular emphasis on borderland regions), popular culture and subcultures, the cultural and political role of the media, language education, ethnolinguistics and ecolinguistics, as well as information and communication technologies in the process of language acquisition.

The journal’s philosophical orientation is expressed primarily through its openness to addressing questions related to identity, otherness and alterity, as well as to the ambiguity and indeterminacy of the boundaries between particular components which make up the socio-cultural life.
