The Peer-Review Process
The review procedure for texts submitted for publication in the academic journal Heteroglossia proceeds as follows:
1. At the first stage, the editor decides whether the submitted article should be preliminarily accepted or rejected. The decision to proceed with further review or to reject the text is based on the conformity of the subject matter with the journal’s profile and compliance with the formal requirements specified in the Guidelines for Authors section.
2. The texts qualified for the next stage are sent by the editor to two independent reviewers who are not affiliated with the author’s academic institution.
3. The journal follows the principle of double-blind review, which means that authors and reviewers do not know each other’s identities. In situations where anonymity cannot be maintained, the reviewer is required to submit a declaration confirming the absence of a conflict of interest. A conflict of interest shall be understood as personal relationships (e.g. kinship up to the second degree or marriage), professional dependency, or scholarly collaboration conducted within the two years preceding preparation of the review.
4. Reviews are prepared in written form and contain an unequivocal recommendation regarding acceptance for publication, revision or rejection.
5. The rules governing text qualification and evaluation criteria, as well as the review form, are available on the journal’s website.
6. Personal data of reviewers of individual articles or journal issues are not disclosed.
7. Following completion of the review procedure, the final decision regarding acceptance or rejection of an article is made by the Editors, taking reviewers’ opinions into account.
8. If the review indicates that revisions requiring further evaluation are necessary, the revised text – after incorporation of the reviewer’s comments by the author – may be resubmitted to the same reviewer.
9. All articles undergoing review are treated as confidential until publication.
