Social Engagement of Teachers in the Face of Culture of Distrust

Abstract

The aim of this paper is to analyse and describe social engagement of teachers in the face of culture of distrust. The first part of the work covers the issue of trust and distrust including their importance and role in terms of functioning of individuals in the society. The next part presents examples of bottom-up forms of actions undertaken by teachers to improve quality of education. The conclusion contains remarks concerning consequences of functioning in the culture of distrust. The author observes that despite numerous job-related difficulties the teachers have proven that they do not reject opportunities of social participation and are willing to engage in bottom-up apolitical initiatives. They are also able to sympathise and endeavour to accomplish planned objectives. Over time, their consistent and determined activities can become a medium of social changes.
