Selected barriers hindering the development of critical thinking skills and ways of dealing with such difficulties were discussed. The aim of this article is to inspire academic teachers to develop critical thinking independently or in cooperation with students by showing how to think about critical thinking and how to improve this skill while working to develop reasoning skills. The attention was also paid to the protective role of critical thinking against simplifications and manipulations, as well as its supporting role in making decisions and selecting information.
