Habilitation in Pedagogy in the interwar period

In the history of higher education in the Second Republic of Poland habilitation is an interesting issue due to the significant differences in comparison with the contemporary procedure. Between the wars the main principles were for mulatedin the law son academic schools. The aim of this text is to determine the number of habilitations in Pedagogy and any difficulties in receiving the title by examining the rules and specific procedures for habilitation. Habilitation was carried out on the basis of one printed scientific work and the previously received Doctor’s degree, without the requirement of any other scientific achievements, though they were usually taken into account. Habilitation only gave the right to teach one particular subject as an associate professor. There were only a few habilitations in Pedagogy and related disciplines, 18 at state universities. The same was true for other disciplines.
