Abstract

The text of the article consists of two parts. Part i discusses the evolution of social attitudes towards sexuality in the twentieth century, describes the changes that occurred at the turn of the century, such as the emancipation of women in the sexual sphere. There are also mentioned such contemporary sexual issues as: gender, homosexuality, transsexuality. Part II characterizes teen sexuality: sexual development, sexual activity, attitudes towards sex. Part ii also includes a presentation of research by Zbigniew Izdebski in the research study : Poles sexuality in the early twenty-first century. These studies were carried out using a diagnostic survey with questionnaires and aim at presenting sexual life of modern teenagers. Professor Izdebski asks young people about the age of their sexual initiation, attitude to homosexuality and commercial sex. He also explores the attitude of youth to social norms. The research shows that young people achieve physical sexual maturity earlier, and thus earlier start their sexual life. But this is not related to emotional maturity, which is reached much later. The research shows that the scale of teenagers’ risky behaviors in the area of sexuality is large. The most common mistake is a bad choice of contraceptive method – a lot of young people stated that they use coitus interrupt us, which is neither a method  of preventing unwanted pregnancy nor STds. The text aims at showing how dangerous contemporary transformation of sexuality of young, immature people can be. It shows that young people, although almost adults, need guidance and advice from mature people, who have more experience relating to sex and emotional relationships. This article shows that there is in schools a need for sexual education led by well-trained professional educators.
