The aim of the present study was to analyze quality of parental recognition of infant’s psychological needs in two cohorts of parents raising their children in the beginning of XX century and in the end of the century. Results unfolded that the older cohort of parents recognized infant’s needs less adequately than the younger cohort and have different priorities in appeasing children’s needs in daily situations. In this cohort/generation, meeting the basic needs of safety and nutritional requirements was the most important. Younger cohort of parents devoted more time with their children for free play and joy going beyond the mere satisfaction of the offspring’s basic needs. Moreover, also parent-infant play-quality was found to differ between cohorts. While older cohort of parents reviled more rule-directed and obedience demanding play forms, younger cohort of parents was more resilient and intersubjectively engaged within parent-child relation.
