Abstract

The main focus of this article is early parenthood. About twenty thousands of teenage girls (including 4,5 thousands of underage) become mothers each year. Parenthood of underage mothers is almost never planned and becomes a critical event in their lives. Teenagers, mentally and socially immature, are not prepared to fulfill a role of a mother or a father. Besides, teenage parents come mostly from poor families, attend to primary or secondary schools and do not have any jobs, stable income and accommodation. The youngest, being underage, do not enjoy their full civil rights, which means they cannot legally raise their own children – for example, they cannot use health and welfare services as parents. To make their situation more difficult they often come from dysfunctional families, which cannot support them. As a result, they are left with minimal or no support from their own parents. Lack of their own resources and insufficient support of their families indicates an important need of developing of external support networks for teenage parents. These problems are discussed in this article.
