Abstract

The purpose of the text is to analyze cyberbullying in academia, with a particular focus on students as “digital natives.” Definitions and manifestations of the phenomenon according to Nancy E. Willard, Jacek Pyżalski, Sameer Hinduja and Justin W. Patchin are discussed, pointing out such forms as flaming, harassment, denigration or cyberstalking. Risk factors for cyberbullying, both for perpetrators, victims and common to both roles (including normative beliefs about aggression, psychological problems, time spent online, personality traits from the dark triad, or the influence of the family environment) are also presented. The text also refers to Jonathan Haidt’s concepts of the “troubled generation” and the “spoiled mind,” linking social change and the development of technology to the deterioration of young adults’ mental health and the rise of cyberbullying. The impact of social media and “big untruths” on mental resilience was pointed out. The company’s own research aimed to determine the extent of cyberbullying among students and identify risk factors for being a perpetrator.
