Publication Ethics

In line with the recommendations to counteract instances of "ghost-writing" - "honorary authorship" (when someone made a significant contribution to the creation of the publication without revealing their participation as one of the authors or without mentioning their role in the acknowledgments in the publication) and "guest authorship" (when the author's contribution is negligible or did not take place at all, and yet they are the author/co-author of the publication), the Editorial Board of the journal Szkoła-Zawód-Praca:

  • Requires the Authors of manuscripts to disclose the contributions of individual authors to the creation of the publication (indicating their affiliations and contributions, i.e., information about who is responsible for the concepts, assumptions, methods, etc. used in preparing the publication). The main responsibility lies with the Author submitting the manuscript.
  • The Editorial Board accepts only texts prepared by human authors, not artificial intelligence (AI) tools – including those generated via ChatGPT.
  • The Editorial Board should obtain information about the sources of publication funding, the contribution of research institutions, associations, and other entities, and the involvement of all people who participated in creating the text at every stage of its formation ("financial disclosure"). The Author is obliged to provide such information next to the title, in the first footnote.
  • The Editorial Board documents any manifestations of scientific unreliability and adopts a position that all detected cases will be unmasked, including notifying relevant entities (institutions employing the authors, scientific societies, associations of scientific editors, etc.).
  • The Publisher and Editors, as well as the journal itself, will never encourage any forms of violation of research and editorial ethics and will not knowingly allow their occurrence. The Publisher and the Editorial Board will take all reasonable steps towards recognizing and preventing the publication of articles in which such a violation could occur. If the Publisher and the Editorial Board are informed of any suspicions of violations, they will appropriately address and respond to them.
  • All the parties involved in the creation of the journal, i.e., the Publisher, the Editorial Board, Reviewers, and all the Authors, are obliged to adhere to ethical standards at every stage of their involvement. Standards established by the Committee on Publication Ethics are hereby treated as a benchmark. It is expected from all the parties that they will not discriminate against anyone based on religious and political beliefs, origin, gender, or sexual orientation.
  • Thematic Editors are expected to act fairly and objectively, treating academic merit as a priority and applying appropriate procedures if any grievances or abuses arise. Monitoring publishing ethics also falls under their responsibilities.
  • Reviewers are expected to help enhance the quality of the published article through an objective review of the manuscript; they should maintain manuscript confidentiality; and be aware of potential conflicts of interest in any form. If necessary, they will refrain from reviewing such an article.
  • Authors are obliged to confirm that the manuscript they wish to publish has not been published anywhere else, nor is it under consideration for publication, and to appropriately describe and cite sources if they were used. The Author's work must be original; however, if it contains elements borrowed from other sources, these must be clearly and unambiguously described, and the Author must have permission to reproduce content from these sources. Authors must unequivocally inform the Editorial Board if there occurs any conflict of interest.
  • If unethical behaviours arise, the Editorial Board and Publisher must be immediately informed. Any allegations should be taken seriously and treated equally until a conclusion is reached. Initial decisions will be made by the Editorial Board, which will then, if necessary, consult the Publisher.
  • In cases of breaches of publication ethics of any kind, Editors will utilize the Publishing Ethics Resource Kit (PERK), available at elsevier.com.
  • The Publisher and the Editorial Board are always willing to publish corrections, clarifications, and apologies if the need arises.
  • Submitted articles undergo verification using anti-plagiarism software.
