University students on the path to professional identity

The aim of this article is to analyse the issue of professional identity formation among young adults, in particular, students in emerging adulthood. This period is a pivotal developmental period during which individuals establish their self-esteem and define the direction of their professional pursuits. In the context of contemporary, dynamic socio-cultural changes – including labour market instability, social and ecological crises, the redefinition of cultural norms, and the consequences of the pandemic – this proces becomes particularly complex. Surveying young adults’ opinions on their professional identity provides a better understanding of their needs, expectations, and difficulties encountered in academic and professional environments. The presented research results, obtained as part of a pilot diagnostic survey, are a starting point for further empirical analyses. They can serve as a basis for developing more effective forms of counselling and educational support, as well as for shaping employment policies that respond to the real challenges and aspirations of the younger generation.
