Abstract

A substantial part of youth shape their professional and school aspirations taking into account the possibility of working abroad. Young people draw their knowledge about EU labour markets, their expectations, searched jobs, requirements regarding specific jobs and the principles of employment of Polish people mainly from talks with people who work abroad and from the media. It has been stated that there are differences in the degree of EU markets opening impact for educational and professional aspirations of students. Moreover, there are also differences in the content and the degree of aspirations between students who have lessons about EU labour markets with a profession counselor at school and students with whom this topic was not raised. Knowledge about EU labour markets acquired from a school profession counselor affects the increase of impact of EU labour markets opening on educational and professional aspirations. It also has an influence on choosing by students jobs and secondary schools that are better adjusted to labour market needs in Poland and the European Union.
